In the grand tradition of peanut butter meeting Iggy's chest or Bing Crosby getting down with David Bowie, Third Man Records is ecstatic to present the latest in a long-line of unexpected musical pairings... Insane Clown Posse and Mozart. Back in '82, ahem, 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piece that's been left out of the spotlight ever since. The title of the piece is 'Leck Mich Im Arsch' or literally translated to English as 'Lick me in the arse.' Understandably this piece has figuratively been swept under the rug. So who better to give this piece it's due respect than the wildly successful, much misunderstood, and divisive Southwest Detroit rappers Insane Clown Posse?

With fellow Southwest Detroit-born Jack White at the production helm and musical backing by Nashville's very own Jeff the Brotherhood, this 2011 version of 'Leck Mich Im Arsch' marries Mozart's melody (and lyrics sung in operatic German) with ICP's poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the B's monster-riffs, letting the whole thing tie together in the most beautiful of ways. The b-side 'Mountain Girl' finds Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope telling tall tales about a shotgun wedding, meth problems and moonshine... all pretty common-fare for a twangy country song birthed in Nashville. Produced by Jack White III.

As vinyl collecting has grown more and more prevalent over the last several years, multitudes of albums have been repressed for new vinyl fans. As Rhino Records says, "Music the way it was meant to be heard- one side at a time."

Most new presses of classics include perks like digital downloads, bonus tracks, colored vinyl, 180 gram vinyl, and more. Here are a few of the many represses we carry at the shop.

Workingman's Dead, 180 gram: The Grateful Dead's first seminal release of 1970 finds the band in an uncharacteristic acoustic setting paying homage to their country, blues and folk roots.

Third Man on the Blue Series: Singers and bands that are traveling through Nashville, are invited to stop by to record one or two songs at Third Man Studio to be produced by Jack White. The songs are then, as soon as possible, made available on 7” vinyl and digitally on itunes. The cover photos are taken in third man’s “blue room” photo studio/live venue.

Also of note are two Third Man releases from Conan O'Brien.

"On Dum Dum Girls’ debut, the band channels ’60s girl groups with innocent lyrics about hand-holding and first kisses.

Pretty tunes and melodramatic lyrics like these would normally require a suspension of disbelief when delivered by a group of badass-looking vamps in tight black dresses, but lead singer Dee Dee, aka Kristin Gundred of now-defunct Grand Ole Party, imparts the teenybopper lines with spot-on deadpan. Several of the waltzy tracks on I Will Be could even—coincidentally—pass as contemporary versions of “The Dum Dum Ditty” by the Shangri-Las. So it’s no surprise that the album was produced by Richard Gottehrer, the

guy behind “My Boyfriend’s Back” and albums from Blondie and the Go-Go’s. But the most unifying element of Dum Dum Girls’ image and sound is the band’s ardently fuzzy lo-fi production. FIND THE RIGHT TURNTABLE — Used record players are a dime a dozen at garage sales and thrift stores, but a 30 year old record player could have many problems. Make sure you get a really good service tech to get it up and playing properly. There are also countless new turntables on the market today.You can buy an amazing new turntable with 21st century technology that will be perfect right out of the box.

SET UP YOUR SYSTEM WITH CARE — Any turntable will need to be properly set-up to get the maximum amount of music out of your record. That means finding someone who knows how to install the needle properly to get the most music out of the grooves. Also, make sure you place your turntable on a rock-solid shelf to keep vibrations away.

LOOK FOR QUALITY VINYL — Thrift shops, garage sales, used record stores and even your uncle’s basement are great places to start your vinyl collection. There are also more new LPs pressed today than anytime since the mid-80s. Specialtystores can advise you on all the great music that’s available on the best quality new vinyl.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR RECORD COLLECTION — Avoid all those ticks and pops by removing the decades of grunge from the grooves with a really good record brush and record cleaning fluids. There are even special record cleaning machines that do all the work for you and will vacuum dry the LP so you can play it immediately. They can be pricey, however. Still, clean records not only sound better, they’re much more valuable.

BRING YOUR RECORDS INTO THE 21st CENTURY — The biggest trend in vinyl right now is taking your records and making them digital. Many newer turntables can connect directly to your computer via USB, and even older, standard turntables can run through a special USB Converter and achieve the same effect. Today's pre-loved CD review features the album Pasadena by the band Ozma. Last spotted in the "O" section of the CD dept. at Spazz Records!

I must say, the from the moment the first track, No One Needs To Know, started, I was a happy listener. Ozma started out as a group of Southern California teenage musicians who had the good fortune of catching the attention of Weezer's Rivers Cuomo and coming on as Weezer's tourmates. Pasadena is the fourth and last release from Ozma, with one breakup and one makeup occurring during the band's career.

Basics: Well-written, well-played, great harmonizing/drums/lyrics

Who will like Ozma: any fans of Weezer, The Magic Numbers, Nada Surf, and general feel-good smart kid pop

The Raveonettes' "Raven In The Grave" is the tenth release from the Danish duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo. Personally, I'm usually sold on Danish bands right off the bat, but I'll give you more to work with!

Raven in the Grave is a short album play-time wise, but packs quality into every track. Psychedelic, goth, and mid-century pop sounds all in one album? Yep! Sharin & Sune do what they do best combining sweet-as-candy pop with moody shoegaze, doing it all with a confident expertise honed through the bands' extensive experience with live shows and studio time. When asked what the Raveonettes sound like, the band replied: "Like nothing else. It’s really a quite hypnotizing wall of sound of the new generation, I think. There’s a lot of distortion and then there’s a lot of sweetness and melody with really good songs and music. It’s that whole tension between…how do you say it? It’s like you have this whole noisy thing going on with the really mellow double vocals on the top. We kind of like the differences in the music."

As one reviewer said, "Life is too short to not love The Raveonettes."

"This year's Vivid Live festival takes place from May 27 to June 6 at Sydney, Australia's famed Sydney Opera House. The fest is curated by Stephen Pavlovic, head of the Modular label, and he's snagged a fairly big get to headline the whole shebang: goth-rock greats the Cure, who will perform their first three albums in their entirety for the first-- and, they say, only-- time.

The Cure's "Reflections" event will take place May 31 and June 1, and it'll feature the band playing their 1979 debut, Three Imaginary Boys, 1980's Seventeen Seconds, and 1981'sFaith. The lineup will be made up of both present and past members of the Cure, and the whole thing will be recorded for a DVD. Pretty cool."
